Cos'è Jabberwocky.

In sostanza, Jabberwocky è un poemetto di Lewis Carroll, pubblicato all'interno del libro "Attraverso lo specchio e quello che alice vi trovò".
Il poemetto è piuttosto interessante per il fatto che contiene diverse parole del tutto inventate dall'autore, eppure mantiene una struttura perfettamente in linea con le classiche liriche inglesi.
Ecco qui riportato l'intero poemetto.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

Beware the Jabberwock, my son!

The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!

Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun

The frumious Bandersnatch!

He took his vorpal sword in hand:

Long time the manxome foe he sought

So rested he by the Tumtum tree,

And stood awhile in thought.

And as in uffish thought he stood,

The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,

Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,

And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through

The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!

He left it dead, and with its head

He went galumphing back.

La traduzione è difficoltosa, e pressoché approssimativa, proprio per il fatto che diverse parole sono inventate, come diverse creature, nate direttamente dalla mente di Carroll.
Eccone alcuni esempi:

-borogove: un uccello lungo e secco, con tante piume tutte attaccate intorno, in stile spazzolone gigante [X]
-jubjub: un uccello disperato che vive nella sofferenza perpetua.
-tove: creatura fantastica, un incrocio tra un tassa e un cavatappi [X]
-rath: animaletto immaginario, simile ad un porcellino verde.
